News on the Maize mill and ‘community spirit’

The land has been levelled for the much anticipated Maize Mill, it is going to be the best thing to happen to the village in a long, long time. Thanks to everyone who is getting behind it. I really want to get started before prices go even higher. The price of the actual motor has almost doubled since we first looked at costs.

Sandra (an aid worker from Holland) was incredibly moved by the people of our area. She has been building a school at her compound. We have a Mphatso Nursery school in her area, mainly for those that aren’t able to cross the river during the wet season and it all worked beautifully because she had stopped nursery school to concentrate on primary school ages. Anyway she has been calling for volunteer to help cart bricks and had about 5 – 10 people arrive over the days. Then she called our chief along with other chief’s from the area to ask for help and our chief and 97 volunteers went across. I had tears in my eyes when I saw people walking in the rain to go and help

Sandra said that  she too was crying when she looked out from her balcony and could see all these people walking down the beach. I tell you our people are the best!! We have built up such a sense of community and co-operation that it spilled over the river to the next village.  On their way back home after working really hard I had a cold drink and a sweetie (you know I mean lolly don’t you!) ready.
