Newsletter January 2009

Well I have the same brain scramble that always hits as soon as I arrive back in Africa. Too much to think about, so if these notes seem to be all over the shop it’s because they are! I am back in Lilongwe to take Kristi & Robyn to the airport for their return to Oz after the quickest 2 weeks ever.

Yes I was old Robyn & she was young Robyn – ha ha. At least it wasn’t fat & skinny Robyn. I was sooo excited to go to visit with the Traditional Authority the other day to tell her that we have enough money to start a nursery school in her area. Well actually we are believing for that!! And our Chief came with me to tell her the good news & she asked the Chief who I was, she didn’t recognise me because I ‘got fat,’ the old bat!

Oh man I don’t know where to start with all of this. The guy that I sat next to on the plane from Perth to Jo-burg was an interesting man; he was about 80 & loves flying - mental. He had been in Oz for a holiday, he lives in Durban Sth Africa & he loved Perth but he said it was too hot for him!

The next flight from Jo-burg to Lilongwe was just as interesting. The man on that flight was the head of a company that has branches all over the world – doing something, I didn’t listen to that bit , anyway their main man died suddenly & they had been training this guy for over 5 years to be able to do the job. He said their experience is that there is nowhere harder to get good staff than Malawi. He said everyone is so nice that they say yes to everything & then never get around to doing it. I told him that we are so blessed with our staff & that I expected to come back & find things in place. He gave me an ‘are you serious look’ but I was quietly confident. I should have been loudly confident – what a team we have, there was not a thing out of place. Everything had been cleaned to within an inch of its life, even decorations that the kids had made. I was sooo proud of them all. The welcome home was just beautiful & lasted days, people coming from everywhere to greet us.
